Know every sign

Signs are half the G1 test. Study them by shape and colour, then practise until you can name each one on sight.

Warning

Curve to the right
The road curves to the right ahead.
Slippery when wet
The road may be slippery when wet — slow down.
Traffic signal ahead
Traffic lights are ahead — be ready to stop.
Curve to the left
The road curves to the left ahead.
Winding road
A series of curves is ahead — slow down.
Stop sign ahead
A stop sign is ahead — begin slowing down to stop.
Yield sign ahead
A yield sign is ahead — be ready to give the right of way.
Two-way traffic
You are leaving a one-way road — oncoming traffic is ahead.
Bump
A bump or uneven surface is ahead — slow down.
Crossroads ahead
An intersection is ahead — watch for traffic crossing or entering.
T-intersection ahead
The road ends ahead at a T — you must turn left or right.
Y-intersection ahead
The road divides ahead — stay in your lane and keep left or right.
Merging traffic
Traffic is merging from the side — adjust your speed to let it blend in.
Road narrows
The road narrows ahead on both sides — watch the reduced width.
Steep hill
A steep downhill grade is ahead — gear down and keep your speed in check.
Low clearance
Low overhead clearance ahead — do not enter if your vehicle is taller than shown.
Soft shoulder
The shoulder is soft — stay on the pavement and off the shoulder.
Sharp bend
A sharp change in direction ahead — follow the way the chevron points.
Checkerboard marker
The road ends or turns sharply ahead — follow the direction of the pattern.
Traffic island
A traffic island or divider is ahead — keep to the right of it.
Wildlife (deer)
Watch for deer and other animals that may cross the road here.
Farm animals
Livestock may be on or crossing the road — slow down and be ready to stop.
Snowmobile crossing
A snowmobile route crosses here — watch for snowmobiles, especially in winter.
